About the AI and Elections Practice

Tracking how AI is changing elections, and helping the people who run them keep up. Part of Ready for Tuesday.

Our story

Part of Ready for Tuesday Ready for Tuesday

The AI and Elections Practice is the practice area of Ready for Tuesday focused on artificial intelligence governance and use. Rooted in partnership, Ready for Tuesday builds resilience, readiness and capacity for the election community, working alongside trusted partners to serve election offices.

Artificial intelligence is changing elections on every front. It is in the tools election offices use and the products vendors sell. It shapes the answers voters get when they ask a chatbot where to vote. It gives attackers new ways to probe systems and spread false information, and gives defenders new ways to respond.

The AI and Elections Practice follows those changes across election administration, security and public trust. We turn what we learn into tools, guidance and analysis that election officials, policymakers and their partners can use, and we help the field separate what AI can really do from the hype.

For hands-on help in your office, Ready for Tuesday works with you directly.

Our experience

Grounded in experience

We have been in the room. Our advice comes from running elections. When AI shows up in an election office, we have usually seen something like it before.

1,000s of election officials trained

We have trained thousands of election officials across the country on AI, security and readiness, in workshops, bootcamps and tabletop exercises.

Inside experience

Our team has run elections and election technology at the county and state level. Our work is grounded in what happens before, during and after Election Day.

Tested with real election offices

We build tools with the people who will use them and try them out with election offices before we share them.

Connected to the people who know

If we do not know the answer, we know where to find it or who to partner with to get it: researchers, technologists, security experts and other election offices.

The Clinic

AI + Elections Clinic at ASU AI and Elections Clinic, Arizona State University

The Practice supports the AI + Elections Clinic at the Arizona State University Mechanics of Democracy Laboratory. The Clinic brings election officials, researchers and technologists together through bootcamps and research, and shares prompts, case studies and training materials through its Skills Hub.

How we work

What to expect from us
Practical firstEverything here is meant to be used: a tool to open, a step to take, a question to ask a vendor or a point to make to policymakers.
People stay in chargeWe treat anything AI produces as a draft for a person to check, and our guidance says so.
Steady, not hypedWe describe what AI can and cannot do in plain language, without alarm or sales talk.
NonpartisanWe help election officials run accurate, secure and trustworthy elections. We do not take sides.
